Remember those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books you read as a kid – the ones where you got to the page at which you could choose to walk down the dark path or fight the three-headed martian directly in front of you?
And remember when the music video used to be an art form – when it told a comprehensive story instead of a digital effects-laden mashup?
Cue in Xelle’s new masterpiece that seamlessly blends the triumphs of the past with the vision of the future and you’ve discovered the first ever “Choose Your Own Adventure” music film: Hologram.
This didn’t require a technological breakthrough. In fact, Xelle (consisting of JC Cassis, Rony Goffer and Mimi Infurst) and their producer Zach Adam (Martha Wash’s Something Good) wanted to create something magically innovative that is also extremely accessible. All that’s needed is a browser and a click of the mouse on this link – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6iCTMx_yeg – and you’ve entered Xelle’s world.
The premise is simple: Legendary singer Martha Wash (of The Weather Girls and the voice behind Jock Jams anthem “Everybody Dance Now”) has been kidnapped and it’s up to XELLE – with the help of Janeane Garofalo – to rescue her “or it will never rain men again.” The audience must choose wisely each step of the way to find magic keys that will lead them to Martha. In all, there are 36 possible ways to view the film.
In addition to Martha Wash and Janeane Garofalo, cameos are made by Kevin Allison (MTV’s The State), Kerri Kenney-Silver (Reno 911!), Joshua McKinley (Project Runway), Michael Musto (The Village Voice) and Mike Ruiz (RuPaul’s Drag Race).
This is an experience you absolutely don’t want to miss!
