We Went Back to School…to get TIPSY! // Liquor Lab

Our team at Tipsy Diaries is always on the lookout for fun things to do in New York City and we’re excited to share that we found a guaranteed hit! As you’re aware, we’re big fans of cocktails and what better way to spend your Friday evening than by learning how to make cocktails from experienced bartenders and mixologists.

Cue Liquor Lab – a downtown hotspot in Soho offering classes on how to concoct a wide variety of cocktails for you to recreate at home. It’s actually genius. They are also paired with food, which is always an added bonus when the munchies kick in after four solid drinks.

Our professor (Chief Cocktail Officer) for both classes was Freddie Sarkis, who is a veteran bartender with experience from all over the country. He does an excellent job of going over the basics and explaining the proper technique of using the bartending apparatus’, ranging from the tin and shaker to the muddler and jigger.

      Our first class was an Iconic NYC Cocktails experience – we learned the history behind some of the classic NYC cocktails and how they originated. One of the cocktails that we made (and loved!) was the Gin Gin Mule – the signature cocktail of the Pegu Club which is right up the block. We also learned how to make the Aged Rum Penicillin as well as a Cosmopolitan (hey Carrie Bradshaw, what’s up!). To complement these iconic drinks, we were served Prince Street Pizza.

The second class we attended was the Infused Margaritas and Tacos! They offered a wide range of tequilas and some were infused by steeping the spice or fruit in the tequila, which gives a great twist to classic margaritas. We thoroughly enjoyed the Pineapple Jalapeno Mezcal Margarita, Hibiscus Tommy’s Margarita and Citrus Infused Margarita, among others.

To make the class more interesting, they play music between drinks so you can mingle and socialize with the other people. All in all, Liquor Lab is a really fun experience whether it’s a date night or girls night!
