Hmmm…the acai berry. For the past few years many vodka companies have been creating new flavors of vodka that consist of the acai berry. I’m sure many of you have heard of this little berry, whether from your doctor, or from your local smoothie shop who sell acai flavored smoothies, but do you really know its worth? Welllll….listen up…the acai berry has 57% more antioxidants than pomegranates or blueberries and they are packed with nutrients. It is grown and harvested in the Amazon region of the Brazilian rainforest and is considered to be the world’s preeminent superfruit with 30X more heart-healthy anthocyanins than red wine.
Now what could be better than taking this little berry, adding it to vodka, and making an alcoholic drink out of it?…Nothing that I can think of at the moment. You can get your swerve on while reaping the benefits of the nutrients that this berry contains. Good stuff! Sounds tasty AND healthy, however, don’t compare it to V8 tomato juice or any Special K products, as I don’t think there are any proven health benefits to drinking vodka. Buttt, the acai berry can offer a hint of healthiness over say a vanilla flavored vodka and is definitely a step in the right direction. Ohh I long for the days when drinking alcohol will be healthy for you.
Some of the vodka companies that have hopped on the bandwagon in the past few years, and have created their own acai berry flavored vodkas are Belvedere (Belvedere IX Acai Berry), Absolut (Berri Acai Vodka), Van Gogh (Acai Blueberry Vodka).
Then there is VeeV, which is the world’s first acai spirit. VeeV blends together the acai berry, hints of prickly pear (loaded with minerals and Vitamin A), and hints of acerrola cherry (vitamin C content is 65X that of an orange; also another great source of antioxidants) in order to create this VeeV spirit.
Launched in Los Angeles by brothers Courtney and Carter Reum, VeeV donates $1 for every bottle that is sold to the Sustainable Acai Project, to preserve the Brazilian Amazon rainforest.
I think theres a valuable lesson to be learned from this…If you’re going to be tearing your liver to shreds with alcohol; might as well throw a little ‘berry goodness’ in there.
