THE ST. ANTHONY HOTEL Halloween Cocktail Menu at HAUNT in San Antonio, Texas

Located on the ground floor of the historic hotel, The St. Anthony Hotel, sits the well-known Haunt Bar. The bar features an entire cocktail menu named after the most famed ghost stories the property has to offer. Originally built in 1909, The St. Anthony has culminated quite a few stories of hauntings and other-worldly happenings over the years.

The St. Anthony is also hosting Halloween event, Spells and Spirits, both on their expansive rooftop and at Haunt, where guests will be encouraged to wear costumes and enjoy their mysterious ‘witch’s brew.’

The Emerick

1 spray Cortas Rose Water
Emmerick – On February 8, 1965 Walter Emmerick checked into room 636 of The Gunter hotel with his girlfriend. They got into an argument and he killed her. Her body was never found as allegedly he disposed of the pieces. He was disoriented and checked into room 536 in The St. Anthony Hotel (636 was occupied). He then committed suicide. Their presence is felt from time to time, her presence is seeking revenge.

Naylor – In 1909 two Cattleman (Naylor and Searingen) took a chance on San Antonio and decided to build a luxury hotel, The St. Anthony Hotel. The rooms had every modern convenience, circulating ice water, steam heat, phones in every room, and the “finest furniture that money could buy”. The rooms were $1.50 without a bathroom and $2.00 with a bath. Mr. Naylor makes an appearance in the lobby from time to time, just to check on things.

½ oz. Hibiscus Liquor
Crooked wig – This gentleman lived in The Hotel and frequented The St. Anthony Club – San Antonio’s first private club. He wore a blue leisure suit and sported a jet black toupee (to make him look younger). He was a lady’s man in his earlier years. He died of natural causes in The Hotel and now returns to the Club, his suit a little tattered and old fashioned, his wig a little crooked, still looking for his true love, or a love for the evening.

1/4oz. Lemon Juice
¼ oz. Lavender Syrup
1 dash Lavender Bitters
¼ oz. Crème De Violette
Top with Prosecco
Lavender Lady – The Lavender Lady is usually experienced in the Library – just one floor above Haunt. Although you do not see her, you can smell the scent of lavender and know that she is present.

The Pixie

1¼ oz. Gin
¾ oz. Lime juice
½ oz. Simple Syrup
½ oz. Blackberry Liquor
Pixie – When The Hotel began its renovation three years ago, all the spirits were disturbed. When the owners reviewed pictures of the demolition in Peacock Alley (lobby), they discovered a “glow” of light which looked like a pixie. She sometimes appears in wedding photos that are taken in the lobby.

1¼ oz. Sailor Jerry Rum
1 oz. George Ocean Coco Rum
2 dashes Orange Bitters
¼ oz. Mezcal
¼ oz. Orgeat syrup
2 oz. Grapefruit juice
Jilted Bride – A bride who was to be married in the 1930’s, was stood up at the alter by her groom. The story goes that she died of a broken heart and returns to Peacock Alley and Anacacho Ballroom from time to time in her tattered long lace gown in search of the groom who jilted her. Her hair is long, now grey, and messy with dead flowers in her veil.

1¾ oz. Vodka
3 dashes Burlesque Bitters
¼ oz. Simple Syrup
½ oz. Grapefruit Juice
½ oz. Hibiscus Liquor
Lady in Red – A beautiful woman who appears to have lived in the 1940’s wears a beautiful red ball gown. She was jilted by her lover at a dance in the Anacacho Ballroom and is sometime seen looming the corridors looking for him.
