HAUTE HIPPIE ANNOUNCES OPENING OF ITS FIRST NEW YORK CITY PERMANENT STORE AT 9 PRINCE STREET IN NOLITA
New York City – From sitting on the floor in India beading her own creations, to sketching on the beaches of Jamaica, the Athenee in Paris and the streets of her home-base in New York City, Haute Hippie designer Trish Wescoat Pound is constantly on the move. Inspired by her travels and nomadic spirit, Wescoat Pound’s world is being brought to life with a new retail experience, presenting her signature rock-n-roll, bohemian aesthetic, (“Ro-Bo,” in her own words). Currently in a state of expansion, Haute Hippie opened its first permanent Manhattan retail store this week, located at Nine Prince Street in the Nolita area.
Late in 2011, Haute Hippie announced the launch of its more casual label for women and men, haute hoodie, which will also be carried at this location. The haute hoodie collection is all about knits and providing the perfect essentials for layering – comfort is key. The collection features everything from soft t-shirts, tanks and henleys, to leather trimmed knit leggings, plaid button down shirts, loungewear and more. Delving into menswear is a new foray for co-creative director Trish Wescoat Pound, inspired by her wish to make clothes for her husband and business partner, Jesse Cole. Through their “Sunday kind of love” and relaxed weekend lifestyle, an authentic collaboration was created: haute hoodie.
“We are so excited to open our first retail store in New York City and to be able to present our Haute world. The store enables us to speak both to Haute Hippie and haute hoodie in a truly cohesive way. Not only are we able to show a full range of product, but we can also showcase it in a way that speaks to the lifestyle for which we design. Ever since we started, we have wanted a direct relationship with our customer. With our Prince Street store we have achieved this and have established our first “home” in the city,” explains Wescoat Pound.
Featuring cowhide rugs, hand-embellished rhinestone longhorns, and crystal chandeliers, the Haute Hippie Nolita store aesthetic will be similar to the Southampton location. The store will open with the Spring collection, including beaded fishtail skirts, long sequin dresses, feather vests & jackets, studded leather jackets, beaded chiffon caftans, studded tees and more. There will also be a selection of accessories such as scarves, jewelry, fringed handbags and studded belts.
In other retail news, Haute Hippie opened a new retail collaboration in December 2011 with Colorado-based luxury outfitter, Gorsuch, to present its new haute hoodie women’s and men’s collections in a specially curated shop in Aspen. The store is called “Gorsuch Presents: haute hoodie Aspen” and is located in a 500 square foot space in The Little Nell Hotel.
